AUTHOR BIO

Norman E. (Ned) Donoghue II graduated from Henderson High School, West Chester, PA, in 1962; Williams College (History major), Williamstown, MA, in 1966; and Duke University School of Law, Durham, NC, in 1969. He worked as a probate attorney at one firm from 1969 until 2003, the last 25 years as a partner at Dechert LLP, a top tier international law firm now with about 1,000 lawyers in 26 principal cities around the world. He then served as director of planned giving in the development department of The Philadelphia Orchestra Association for five years until 2008, raising funds for a $130M endowment campaign. He also served for 40 years as an officer and trustee of the board of Princess Grace Foundation-USA, raising funds and making grants to advance the careers of emerging artists in the U.S. in theater, dance, and film in tribute to HSH Princess Grace of Monaco, the former Academy-Award winning actress, Grace Patricia Kelly. (He currently serves as an emeritus trustee).

Since 2005 he has done extensive genealogical research for his family and also researched pacifists during the American Revolution in Pennsylvania and Maryland, culminating in the publication of the present book.

Ned has had a lifelong interest in Quakers. And his family, including 18th century ancestors, has had numerous connections to Quakers Henry and Elizabeth Drinker, major characters in the book. Read more about this in the book.
